CAP Program of Comal County

The CAP (Child Assault Prevention) Program is an internationally acclaimed program that seeks to empower communities to keep children safe from bullying, abduction, and adult abuse. It was created in 1985 in New Jersey and has trained over 5 million children, parents, and teachers. The CAP Program integrates the best resources of a community in an effort to reduce a child or young person’s vulnerability to verbal, physical, and sexual assault. All curricula seek to reduce children’s vulnerability to abuse, assault and bullying by increasing awareness that children have rights and provide prevention strategies and resources. Programs are presented with a view of assault as a violation of basic human rights. Strategies include self-assertion, peer support, effective communication and reporting skills.
The SART Foundation of Comal County will be working closely with the local school districts, parent/teacher associations, home school groups, and other community groups in an effort to work together to create the program. The program itself consists of volunteers who work with children in the schools through role-plays, skits, and guided group discussions, with the purpose of training children to recognize potentially dangerous situations and to make effective use of the options available to them when dealing with such a situation. All programs are age-appropriate and focus on strengthening children’s belief in their rights to be “SAFE, STRONG, and FREE.” To learn more about this program, please also visit www.internationalcap.org.
